The Role and Importance of Our Family Liaison Officer – Safeguarding Families, Empowering Children
At Queensgate Primary School, we believe that a child’s success is closely connected to the wellbeing and safeguarding of their family. That’s why we have a dedicated Family Liaison Officer (FLO) who works closely with children, families, and school staff to help ensure every child is safe, supported, and ready to learn.
What Does the Family Liaison Officer Do?
Our FLO is here to:
- Build strong home-school connections acts as a trusted point of contact for families, fostering positive and open communication.
- Provide guidance and practical help offers assistance with challenges such as housing, finances, health concerns, or family difficulties, always with a focus on safeguarding and wellbeing.
- Connect families with local services Links you to key resources including mental health support, counselling, and community networks.
- Promote attendance and punctuality Helps address and remove barriers that may impact regular school attendance.
- Work with school staff to meet children’s needs Collaborates with teachers and leadership to ensure that each child’s safety and wellbeing are prioritised, both at home and at school.
Why Is This Role Important?
Our Family Liaison Officer (FLO) is here to listen, understand, and take action to safeguard children’s welfare. Early and effective support can make a real difference to families.
At Queensgate, our FLO also serves as the Designated Safeguarding Lead and Lead Professional for Early Help.
Early, effective intervention can lead to:
- Improved attendance and punctuality
- Greater emotional resilience and confidence
- Safer home and school environments
- Stronger relationships between families and the school

Public Health Nurse Number
The public health nursing service have produced a designated phone number for young people to message the School Nursing team if they are anxious or worried at this time. The team will be able to offer call back with advice and signpost to the best resources and services for young people. This is a safe and confidential service especially for young people.
The number is 07341 868124. This dedicated phone line will be open Monday to Friday between 9am and 4pm, including in the school holidays. The young person should leave a message and a member of the team will get back to them as soon as possible, within 24 hours (within the working week of Monday to Friday).
