Curriculum by Year Group
At Queensgate, the curriculum is carefully structured to build children’s knowledge, skills, and understanding step by step as they move from one year group to the next.
While all year groups follow the National Curriculum, each year has different learning objectives tailored to the age and development of the children. For example:
- In Key Stage 1 (Years 1 and 2), the focus is on building strong foundations in reading, writing, maths, and basic subject knowledge through practical and engaging activities.
- As children move into Key Stage 2 (Years 3 to 6), the curriculum becomes broader and deeper. Pupils develop more independence and are introduced to more complex ideas, including reasoning in maths, extended writing, and scientific enquiry.
Each year builds on the last, ensuring children are well prepared for the next stage of their learning. While the subjects remain the same—like English, maths, science, history, and geography—the content and expectations grow in challenge as your child progresses through school.
